Since its official opening in Hong Kong in 1985, SOGO Department Store has accompanied Hong Kongers for 40 years, growing alongside its customers and witnessing countless life stories and precious moments. To celebrate this milestone, from now until January 6, 2026, SOGO is hosting the '40 Years of SOGO. Making Memories Together' themed exhibition at SOGO Kai Tak Store. Through classic exhibits, nostalgic collectibles, and art collaborations, along with the launch of the 'SOGO 40: Time Collection' game and a limited-edition commemorative Totebag, we cordially invite you to travel back in time to nearly half a century ago and relive the precious memories that SOGO has woven together with Hong Kong people!
Founded in Osaka in 1830, SOGO transformed into a modern department store in 1933. Since its arrival in Hong Kong in 1985, SOGO has upheld the core values of 'Quality and Service', becoming an indispensable part of Hong Kongers' lives. This exhibition transforms SOGO Kai Tak Store into a time tunnel, with each floor meticulously divided into different exhibition areas. It showcases a range of exhibits that evoke customers' emotions, including opening ceremony scissors, early advertising photos, limited-edition Octopus cards, promotional materials from the annual Customer Appreciation Sale, artist collaboration souvenirs, and Olympic memorabilia. The exhibition presents iconic moments from different eras, narrating how SOGO has carried the city's memories and human interest stories, guiding customers through 40 years of glorious history and nostalgic sentiments!
From the thrilling moment of a first lipstick to the solemn occasion of a first suit, these warm fragments converge into the eternal corner of family memories. From the dazzling fireworks of Hong Kong's 1997 handover to the passionate cheers of the 2008 Beijing Olympics, SOGO is intimately connected to the city's pulse. The annual Customer Appreciation Sale intertwines crowds and warmth, becoming an indispensable festival tradition in the hearts of Hong Kong people, accompanying generation after generation through wonderful times.
'40 Years of SOGO. Making Memories Together' Exhibition Details

Exhibition Highlights:
● G/F Main Entrance: Recreating the 1985 opening ceremony, displaying items such as opening ceremony scissors, booklets, advertisements, and historical photos.
● B1/F to 7/F: Displaying SOGO's anniversary souvenirs, mascot 'SOGO-chan' merchandise, promotional flyers from the Customer Appreciation Sale, and various memorable collaborations with local and international artists. These include Carrie Chau's art card case, Chocolate Rain's playful stationery and collectibles, B.Wing's healing illustrations, Alice Chan's Asteria fairy tale series, character designs by Japanese favorite groovisions' Chappie, elegant collaborations with Spanish illustrator Arturo Elena, SOGO Bear Christmas series stationery, and the Hanami Family mascot series, among others.
● 5/F: Exploring the world of sports, showcasing sports-themed merchandise from the 2008 Beijing Olympics x SOGO series and SOGO Run 2019 memorabilia.

From now until October 21, SOGO is holding a special 'SOGO 40: Time Collection' game. As you reminisce about SOGO's classic moments, complete simple tasks and exchange coffee with prices from 40 years ago ($4) upon successful completion. All you need to do is pick up a game card from the designated locations on each floor during the event, explore the exhibition, guess the year of the exhibits based on the clues, and stamp your answers on the game card. If you answer 2 or more questions correctly, bring your confirmed game card to the 1/F SOGO Café to exchange a Happy Nuts Cheese Chocolate Coffee Frappe/Happy Nuts Chocolate Coffee (hot) (originally priced at $58) for just $4, the price from 1985!

SOGO 40th Anniversary Limited-Edition Totebag | Continuing a Beautiful Legacy Across the Century
To celebrate SOGO's 40th anniversary, we are launching a limited-edition commemorative double-sided design Totebag that cleverly blends nostalgic and modern styles, showcasing SOGO's unique charm across different eras! One side of the Totebag features the classic red, white, and green paper bag design from the Jumbo SOGO opening, originally created by the Japanese SOGO team. It is still considered SOGO's symbol, evoking memories of past shopping experiences for a generation. The other side presents the modern SOGO paper bag design, reflecting the brand's image of keeping up with the times. The exchange period is from now until November 9. Customers can exchange one Totebag with any purchase plus $20. Quantities are limited, available while stocks last!
